Poor concentration or difficulty making decisions are treated as another possible symptom. Mild degrees of dysthymia may result in people withdrawing from stress and avoiding opportunities for failure. In more severe cases of dysthymia, people may even withdraw from daily activities. Diagnosis of dysthymia can be difficult because of the subtle nature of the symptoms and patients can often hide them in social situations, making it challenging for others to detect symptoms. Additionally, dysthymia often occurs at the same time as other psychological disorders, which adds a level of complexity in determining the presence of dysthymia, particularly because there is often an overlap in the symptoms of disorders. Suicidal behavior is also a particular problem with persons with dysthymia. It is vital to look for signs of major depression, panic disorder , generalised anxiety disorder , alcohol and substance misuse and personality disorder. This provides support for the idea that dysthymia is in part caused by heredity.

Cancel 0 Recently, the guy who was supposed to be in a friends with benefit arrangement with me dumped me. He was going to be guaranteed sex probably twice a week and he just decided to turn it down because of my recent change of mood. I am a healthcare professional. Hence I know when certain days get bleak and hopeless, when silence was the only hum of my life, when all I wanted to do was lie in bed and never open my eyes, I knew something was wrong, especially when there are also days when it feels like nothing in the world can stop me from reaching my dreams, when life seems so euphoric, when I feel so spontaneous and energetic like Bugs Bunny on coke.
Something was horribly wrong. It has always been hard to attract the opposite sex. Guys go for the girl who is laughing and smiling while sipping her drinks and not the girl who is hiding in one corner, looking as if she is pondering upon the meaning of life. In fact, he would genuinely wonder how it is impossible for a girl like me, who is so cool, bursting with self-confidence and as quirky and cute as Jennifer Lawrence, to be single.
I mean, who wants to hang out with a girl who needs to be mollycoddled, who needs constant reassurance and thrives on affection? Maybe they would be more understanding had I told them about the underlying problem. Look, even the guy who I promised commitment-free sex decided to hightail out of my life.

Comments At the end of my first date with Sara, she moved in with me. You might think the date was extraordinary. We’d gone to a Hollywood hamburger stand and gabbed about bands and writers for four hours. Until that night, we’d only spoken on the phone a few times. By the time the ice in my soda had melted, I’d fallen in love.

Posted by nightblinkers Wanted to let everyone know that I am over 4 months stable and still off of medications. There is success with this condition. I am truly thankful to God for this, because in all honesty, without the Lord, I couldn’t have made it through those difficult times, and having the courage to even try to stop meds after over 14 years of being medicated would have been too much for me to even consider.
I remember those times sitting in my room in the dark sad, angry and agitated and full of anxiety, just thinking how much easier it would be to just give up. I have been in mental institutions and can understand just how hopeless it can seem, but don’t ever give up. We can be healed and have normalcy. Unfortunately, many people who get better, no longer post on sites afterward, just leaving us with a sample of people who all seem to be failing with this disorder.
So I write this for those of you who are giving up hope; don’t give up, keep on fighting, in all the darkness you are enduring, there is a light if you hold on. It always frustrated me to read so many stories of failure or just holding on, or somewhat stable yet the people were still lacking any happiness in life. So stop believing that you are doomed to a miserable or joyless life, it’s not true at all. However, as I wrote about, don’t jump off meds to be drug free.

He was diagnosed about 7 or 8 years ago, on meds for a while then we just ignored the problem thinking it would go away. Three years ago I left after a very bad manic episode and he would not seek any professional help. When I said I was leaving it turned into an even worse episode that landed him in jail for a DUI I think he was trying to kill himself with the use of the car.
I left for two months and he did everything right. Got help, swore he would stay on meds, let me have my freedom, etc. I thought I had to give it another shot for the man I loved, our dogs, cat and the life we had built together. I returned and we went to counseling and he saw his own doctor. They put him on Lithium and I started to think we may make it after all. I started to let my guard down and started trusting him again to be the man I thought I had married. Then slowly the bizarre well familiar to me and controlling behavior started to creep into our lives.
Dating a Person with Bipolar How to know when to hold on, and realize when to let go.
He was diagnosed by 5 separate specialists, or so he said. He has bipolar 2. But I always thought his moods were extreme, especially given the medications he is taking and the fact that he has taken them consistently for the past 5 years. This definitely answered a lot of my question. None of it made sense at that time, now it does. Towards the end I did notice it became a one way relationship…his way. I no longer was able to hold on and I broke it off. This is where it hit the fan….. Please help me understand. When I said it was over and this time he will not be able to push my buttons and bring me back, this was the final straw. He became enraged, began to scream say vile things and even tried to twist the truth by saying he called it quits.
I refused to argue and remained calm. That made him more furious. I was also dropping off his stuff and came to pick up my own….
